Book Week for Kids - Plenty of Ideas!

Book week is a great way to celebrate literature and get children involved in reading. Schools have an annual Book Week where their children dress up as their favourite character from a book. This can be a pain for parents trying to find a suitable character but not to worry, Elliott's are here to help. We have a range of authors, characters, costumes and accessories to help you this year!

The Fantastic Roald Dahl is a worldwide famous children's book author who created favourites such as Matilda, Willy Wonka, and James and the Giant peach! As well as being celebrated during book week, Roald Dahl has his own day for us to celebrate his books and characters as well! The exciting thing about Roald Dahl characters for this year's event is that we have an extensive range of Roald Dahl children's costumes.

Willy Wonka and his Oompa Loompas would be perfect for teacher and students. Some green wigs and orange face paint are essential; finishing touches are really what completes a costume!

Dr Seuss, the genius behind The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Green Eggs and Ham, has many popular characters celebrated during Book week. The Cat in the Hat is excellent for boys and girls. This costume is made up of accessories and is cheap to create. Thing 1 and Thing 2 are also great for a duo attending school and will be sure to get a laugh or two.

Martin Handford the incredible author behind the Where's Wally books. What better way to entertain yourself than with the Where's Wally books, they give endless hours of fun trying to find this distinctive character. Why not dress like Where's Wally for the day and play your very own version of the book, it will be a great way to amuse your class mates at school.

Walt Disney the inspirational man behind a multitude of different books, films, cartoons and TV programs. Classics for Disney include Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Snow White, Peter Pan and Aladdin, where as more modern Disney include Pirates of the Caribbean, Tangled, Toy Story and Frozen. Many of Disney's favourite characters can be celebrated during book week through different costumes and accessories, here at Elliotts we have a fantastic range of Disney costumes. Why not be Jack Sparrow or one of the other pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean, just take a look at our selection of pirate items. You could be a Disney princess for the day with one of our elegant princess dresses, we have Cinderella, Snow White, Belle as well as Anna and Elsa from Frozen! And what princess would be complete without her handsome prince, we have a range of prince costumes to match your princess.

Action may be more your style so you might want to go for a character that does a lot of action throughout the story, this could be Peter Pan or even Woody and Buzz from Toy Story, we have costumes for all these active characters. You might be an animal lover and want to go as your favourite animal from Disney's the Lion King or the Jungle Book, we have a wide range of animal costumes to suit characters from these fun loving stories.

C S Lewis the amazing author who taught us of a different world that came alive just by walking through your wardrobe! The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of 7 classic novels for children that opened there imaginations to the fantasy world of Narnia which contained mythical creatures, talking animals and magic. In the books 4 children from war time England enter this magical world to escape the chaos around them. You could dress up for the day as one of these four children by looking at our range of evacuee and world war costumes. By using your imagination and getting creative you could accessorise and become one of the mythical creatures from the world of Narnia such as Mr Tumnus the fawn.

J K Rowling created a magical fantasy world full of wizards and witches that are battling against the evil Lord Voldemort in the fight to the end in the amazing Harry Potter series. Why not join J K Rowling's wizarding crew and dress up like the courageous Harry Potter or the intelligent Hermione for the day. Here at Elliotts we have a wide range of Harry Potter robes and accessories so you can dress up as your favourite character from the film.

J R R Tolkien created the epic high fantasy novels; The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. These novels opened our minds to the mysterious world of dwarves, elves, hobbits, wizards and other creatures far beyond our imagination. The main character Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit or his son Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings are excellent characters to dress up as from the novels, they may be hobbits but they are very heroic ones at that! We have a hobbit costume similar to the one worn by Bilbo Baggins and Frodo Baggins, we also have a range of accessories for the characters such as hobbit feet, ears and even a golden ring to complete the look. To create an even more realistic hobbit look why not add some hair onto the feet.

Lewis Carroll created some amazing character’s that allow us to slip into another land. Maybe Wonderland? Alice costumes are great, not only for World Book Day but ANY fancy dress occasion! We have various Alice costumes so you really are spoilt for choice! Get creative with some of our accessories and you could create other characters from the novel. Mr Rabbit, The Mad Hatter or maybe even the Queen of Hearts.
