About Elliotts Fancy Dress
Our family owned Fancy Dress Company is the earliest established and longest running fancy dress shop in both Northern Ireland & Ireland! The company was established 1886.
Originally specialising in Wigs and Carnival items. We then progressed to Hiring of Costumes and Accessories in the early 1900's mainly for Theatrical plays across Ireland and the UK. This continued until 1948 when we switched to selling costumes and accessories. We added Fireworks to our range in 1950 and continue to sell them today.
Here in Northern Ireland as a population we've been ahead of the Fancy Dress market, decades before Halloween became big in the States and the UK. It seems that in difficult times (particularly here in Belfast) everyone needs some light relief and an excuse to party!
Location & Places to Visit in Belfast Near Us
We have been located at the Queen's Bridge end of Ann St for over 90 years, on the western bank of the now beautifully regenerated River Lagan. Just over the road is the Statue of Harmony - a giant wire sculpture of a woman holding a symbol of unity as she overlooks the water - from here it is a visibly short stroll from the Waterfront Hall. We are a 20 min walk the world-famous Belfast Ship Builders yard of Harland & Wolf where the legendary Titanic Ship was built, here you can see the two iconic monster cranes of Belfast - Samson & Goliath - tower over the skyline in brilliant bright yellow. The amazing Titanic Museum building can't be missed as it cuts the sky with each of it's corners shaped like the bow of ship, it's super impressive and a work of art. It houses the replica staircase built from the original blueprint drawings of the Titanic ship - as seen in the James Cameron Movie - Titanic. Not too far from here, in fact just around the corner are the Movie studios that have given us the amazing TV series Game of Thrones & The Fall.
Our shop is on the corner of Ann Street & Donegall Quay beside the Laganside bus station and multi-story car park. We are just a 2-minute walk from Victoria Square's Ann St exit & the Bullitt Hotel or Belfast's own 'Flat Iron' building - Bittles Bar at the Fountain exit.
Ann St is split into two halves; lower Ann St is the pedestrian section and upper Ann St is a one-way road flowing from the Queen's bridge. A major one-way road called Victoria St creates the division, located on this street is Belfast's very own Pisa - the famous leaning Albert clock, the clock tower was built over Belfast’s little known underground river – called the Farset river and it flows into the river lagan just beside the Big Fish sculpture - known as the Salmon of Knowledge.
If you are leaving Victoria Square you can either cross the road or use the pedestrian subway to get to upper Ann St. There is an underground car park located at Victoria Square and for other available parking close to us see the parking tab at the bottom of this page. Our Carnival & Fancy Dress shop is next door to our Formal shop.
