Hooped underskirts have been worn by women from as early as the 1850s! These were worn to add volume to a dress, and to make their waist appear smaller! The shape of the underskirt is cone like, smaller hoop at the top, to a larger hoop at the bottom. This was purposely done in the 1800s for ease of dancing and walking without tripping over your dress!
This underskirt has an elasticated waist with Velcro closing and drawstrings to tighten if needed. It would be ideal for wearing under a princess costume, or a Victorian style dress. The hoops are made from a strong, sturdy metal material which was originally made from whalebone or wood.
